Sorry but for me my Hexar story has ended

Three years ago when I was on vacation on the Greek Isles (Cyclades) my Hexar camera stopped working halfway my vacation. Local temperatures where around 40 degrees Celsius which I blaimed first being possibly the cause of the problem because I carried the camera the whole day in my backpack. When I pressed the release button the shutter stayed open and the camera stayed dead. I didn't realise that the shutter was still open so I rewinded the film. After developing the film nothing was visible on film not even negative separators. So the 22 pictures I took with that last film where also lost. The display of the camera only showed B.C. which indicated that I should replace battery, so I did. I always carry some spare batteries. But that didn't solve the problem no action of the camera. Well maybe my spare battery was bad also. I bought a new battery at the local photoshop with the same result. There I was still two weeks of vacation to go and no photocamera available. It was the first time that I didn't took a second camera with me on vacation :-( I was so angry about this that when I returned from vacation I put the camera in a cabinet where is stayed for a few years. In the meantime I just used other cameras. Last year many visitors of this website were e-mailing me and telling enthusiastic stories about this camera so I decided to have a go and send the camera in for repair. My guess was that just the battery check was broken. Four weeks later the camera came back with a verdict of Konica. First - Someone has opened the camera and caused a shortcut on the mainboard which is now dead. Second - also the autofocus died. Positive was that they would still be able to repair this camera but it would take many hours of labor and the parts would have to be ordered for in Japan. One minor drawback would be the cost of that repair, estimation $350-$400 American dollars. Sorry, but no thanks. For that price I can probably find a new Hexar Silver still lying around in a few photoshops. I will still takes some photo's but not with cameras as quiet as the Hexar (is now :-) ).
